iPort: a novel medication delivery device
About the project
iPort allows an individual to deliver shots of any medication in a simple and comfortable way. Catherine Patton invented the device after being diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. The product can be found in medtronicdiabetes.com and it is available in many countries.
"When I first started taking multiple daily insulin injections, I felt like a pin cushion," said Catherine (KK) Patton, inventor of the i-Port® and founder of Patton Medical Devices. "I knew there had to be a better way to manage my diabetes without the repeated needle sticks, and I knew that I was not the only person with diabetes who felt this way. So I came up with something better."

How Does It Work?
The device can be installed in accessible areas such as the lower abdomen or any another place that may be comfortable. On the bottom it has a small needle that it is connected to the skin and on the front it has a port where a syringe can deliver the medication. The inventor claims that this product can reduce the number of punctures per day by up to 15 times, making it specially helpful to people suffering with Type I Diabetes or Insulin Dependent Type II Diabetes.
